History

Furfuracea means “covered with loose wool or scales.”

Relatively small in size, this charming cycad is tough enough to survive occasional neglect and harsh environments. The leaflets have a cardboard feel to them, hence the name Cardboard Palm. Males and females produce cones that break open to release bright red seeds. Zamia furfuracea is a low-growing, clumping cycad. It is advisable to plant cardboard palms in areas with good drainage and full sun.
